This historic photograph shows the future Queen Elizabeth with her loving family. We see the young Princess Margaret as well as the youthful sisters’ parents. King George IV stands beside Elizabeth, the Queen Mother on the balcony of Buckingham Palace in 1937.
It is an important image because it was one of the family’s final public appearances before World War II. The Royal Family maintained massive popularity during this time. This was the end of a Golden Age for Europe’s monarchies but they still had time. The photo is a testament to the power that royalty once commanded (via NPR).
