Queen Elizabeth represented Great Britain in many meetings with foreign dignitaries. She maintained political neutrality but this didn’t stop her from being a messenger for peace. In 2011 she traveled to Ireland on a historic visit. A state banquet saw her address the guests in the Irish language.

Ireland and Great Britain are neighbors with a long and contentious history. The latter colonized the former and this legacy simmers on in Northern Ireland. However, the relationship between the South and the UK was never stronger than in this iconic moment (via Al Jazeera).
