40 Troublemakers Share Their Stories Of Being Banned For Life

Monica April 28, 2022

We’ve all watched someone get kicked out of a bar, a store, or an event for one reason or another. They might have been temporarily banned or banned for life. Usually, we never truly know the backstory to why they were kicked out, but it sparks our interest.

So we’ve discovered some awkward, hilarious, and strange stories from people on the internet who were banned from somewhere for life. They certainly didn’t learn how to beat the system. Some of these stories are certainly hilarious, so check them out below.

Reddit

40. Never Been There

It’s true what they say; we all have at least one doppelgänger walking around somewhere in the world. Unfortunately for this man, he was banned from a cafe in North Wales because the owner mistook him for someone who was actually banned. He had never been to that cafe before. He probably spent those several decades wondering what his doppelgänger did to get kicked out of that cafe (via Stilletto_Rebel).

Reddit

39. Back In The ’90s

We’ve all played games while eating, like seeing who could drink the fastest or how much wasabi someone could handle. Usually, we get away with these games without consequence. Unfortunately for this person’s uncle, they were banned from a diner in the ’90s because of their “eat a 72 oz steak in under an hour” competition, which they tried six times in two weeks. We don’t know what’s more surprising, the fact that he was banned, or the fact that they managed to eat a 72 oz. steak six times in two weeks (via Darklliter).

Reddit

38. Canceled The Reservation

Things come up. That’s why we have to cancel or reschedule plans. Usually, it’s without consequence, except if it’s the “Late Night with David Letterman” show. This Reddit user shared how they canceled their reservation to the show, and the intern told them, very seriously, “you should know if you cancel you will never be allowed back. Ever!” That alone would make us not want to go. If you have to cancel your reservation for a famous show in NYC and are banned because of it, that’s pretty harsh. It’s not something we’d want to support (via snizuitz).

Reddit

37. Banned For Selling Books

Money certainly makes the world go round. We applaud this Reddit user for taking a stand and pocketing the extra 20 dollars. We’d do the same. Not only did he make money, but he also helped out a fellow student. It’s a shame the bookstore owner didn’t want to help them out, especially since they’re young students with a limited amount of cash. That 20 dollars can go a long way, and surely there’s another bookstore in the area he can bring his business to. It was worth getting banned from the bookstore (via Complicated_Business).

Reddit

36. Distracting The Guests

Having to use the bathroom during a movie is completely understandable and even expected. How could a theater ban someone from using the bathroom? That’s a basic human need. Even if they were “distracting the other guests,” by standing up and walking down the aisle, it shouldn’t equate to getting banned from a movie theater. We’re in shock. Maybe they should never go back to that theater since they seem quite strict (via ZebraLionFish).

Reddit

35. Eat A Tic Tac

Talk about radical honesty. Even though it’s hilarious, he’s doing that waitress a favor. No one wants to order food from someone who has bad breath. That’s one way to lose your appetite. It seems like that waitress didn’t want to be told they have bad breath and resorted to kicking them out of the bar as retaliation (via TubeToUranus).

Reddit

34. Never Give Up

We understand getting kicked out of a pub for being too drunk. Usually, once someone is kicked out, they take a taxi home and sleep it off. This Reddit user shares how they were kicked out for being too drunk, and then decided to climb over the fence. The anti-climb paint worked, and they were immediately spotted. It makes sense they were banned after that. At least they admitted that they learned their lesson (via hellip).

Reddit

33. Popworld

This Reddit user was banned for pole dancing. That deserves a round of applause. They were totally in their zone, and even when they were asked to stop, they didn’t. We wish we had that kind of courage. We can also understand why they were banned. At least they went out with a bang (via fastestman4704).

Reddit

32. Using The Library

It sounds like that librarian needed someone to yell at that day. It’s a pretty harsh way to get banned from a library, considering that student was only trying to contact their mom. Give them a break! It’s not like they were trying to steal a library book. Sometimes, we need to contact our parents and let them know what we’re doing. At least they finished sending their email and even got their final words in when they said, “good, wasn’t planning on coming back here again anyways” (via Stouty22).

Reddit

31. Banned From Tesco

We’re all wondering the same thing: how did they manage to get banned from Tesco for life? Did they steal something? Put up a fuss? Luckily, because their brother is the security guard, they’re still allowed in. Interestingly enough, they never asked their brother if they’re still banned. That’s something we’d want to know right away. Maybe it’s something better left unknown (via SufficientRead1).

Reddit

30. Squeaky Toys

Getting banned from Target for causing a noisy disturbance? That’s the first time we’ve heard of that happening. If that happened to us, we couldn’t even be mad. It’s way too comical. That’s probably the first and last time we’ll hear about that happening (via The_Arabian_King).

Reddit

29. Hijacking A Canoe In Disneyland

Honestly, we want to be friends with that cross country teacher. He and his friends sound like so much fun. Hijacking a canoe at Tom Sawyer’s Island in Disneyland? That’s worth the story, even if they were banned “for life.” It seems that Disneyland didn’t stick to their ban, though, since he’d still gone dozens of times since his ban (via Strumpster).

Reddit

28. Banned From Walmart

Honestly, we all secretly hope we’d be in a Walmart with someone hijacking the PA system. The first time he shouted. Later on, he went back and gave a description that perfectly matched his friend’s outfit. That’s brave. We’re all wondering what the reaction of every customer in Walmart was. It’s a hilarious way to get banned from somewhere (via Reddit).

Reddit

27. Bumper Boats

How this Reddit user managed to mistake mini speed boats for bumper boats is beyond us. He was banned for mistaking a ride for another ride, which involves smacking into the other amusement park riders. It’s almost so funny that it’s forgivable. We would’ve loved to see the reaction of the amusement park manager when they saw them bumping the boats (via EverythingIsOnFire).

Reddit

26. Just Bad Luck

We’ve all slipped while dancing drunk at a club. It’s almost expected. In the mid-’80s, this Reddit user slipped while drunk, while also ripping open a woman’s blouse, who also happened to be the owner. That’s just bad luck. If it was a different woman, he probably wouldn’t have gotten banned (via TwisttheBlade).

Reddit

25. Pickle Races

It’s one thing getting yourself banned, but getting your entire fourth-grade class? Surely that’s a record. This Reddit user got their entire class banned from a McDonald’s for having pickle races. It’s almost worth it. We’re sure the pickle races were worth the ban though (via giveyouazerbert).

Reddit

24. Club Penguin

We’ve all played Club Penguin, and most of us have thought about typing in a curse word. We probably didn’t, though. Club Penguin banned him when this Reddit user typed in the word b*tch. What a way to go (via zacktyzwyz)!

Reddit

23. Virgin Megastore

This is probably for the best. Getting banned from a Virgin Megastore isn’t necessarily a bad thing, considering they cease to exist and have now been replaced with “Zavvi.” Even though this Reddit user shoplifted, it’s still a funny story. It seems like he was the one that won (via CyJackX).

Reddit

22. A Cult

We can see why the owners thought these people were a religious cult, although it doesn’t seem like reason enough to get banned. They were just roleplaying and keeping to themselves. If they started including random passersby around them, we could understand the ban more. Maybe the owners were just being cautious (via Siderealcat).

Reddit

21. Browsing Items

Since when does someone get banned for browsing a store? This guard has a different definition of browsing. This Reddit user was “just picking stuff up and putting them back again.” How else do you look through stuff? It’s probably a good thing he was banned from John Lewis since it doesn’t seem like a very welcoming store to shop in (via AFalconNamedBob).

Reddit

20. Stole Sunglasses

It comes as no surprise that Sears banned this Reddit user for stealing a pair of sunglasses 40 years ago. Stealing comes with consequences. And consequently, a shop banning you is one of them. It could’ve ended a lot worse, as he could’ve ended up going to jail as a result (via roadrobber).

Reddit

19. Planet Fitness

This sounds like a scam. First, it seems like Planet Fitness is stealing money from its customers by luring them into a plan, and then threatening them with a $150 cancellation fee. It was pretty smart of this Reddit user to call their bank and tell them not to let Planet Fitness take any money from their account due to this strange fee. Luckily, they’re banned from ever signing up again, so at least they don’t have to worry about them stealing money from them ever again as a result (via Manati_banzai).

Reddit

18. Knocking Over Bookshelves

This is something we’d all probably love to see. That must’ve been an entertaining and chaotic day at the library due to this odd behavior. What was she doing that caused her to knock over all of the bookshelves? Whatever the reason, it makes sense the library banned her as a result. It seems like it’s worth it for the story, though (via Current_Material3899).

Reddit

17. Best Buy

This Reddit user managed to steal a bunch of CDs from Best Buy, get banned, and then go back even though they weren’t allowed. It’s smart they never stole anything again because the consequences probably would’ve been a lot worse the second time around (via Flippant_Robot).

Reddit

16. Playing With Toys

Honestly, it’s quite sad that this Early Learning Center banned him for playing with toys even though he didn’t have a toddler with them. We understand if there were rules in place where the toys were only for the kids, but if it was solely because he was a teenager playing with the toys, it seems like a letdown as a result. Therefore, let this guy have some fun, as long as he’s not disturbing anyone else (via BlackJackKetchum).

Reddit

15. Fridges Not Working

This Reddit user deserves a thank you from the corner shop due to this ban. The state could’ve easily shut them down because they had a health violation in place. It seems they retaliated and wanted to blame this Reddit user due to his findings and tried to accuse him of stealing. He seems pretty happy he was banned, and we would be too (via lithaborn).

Reddit

14. Banned From Town Center

This Reddit user admits they got a 24-hour ban for starting a fight and then trying to sneak back in over a fence. That’s pretty brave. Of course, with alcohol confidence, anything seems possible. It seems that this experience was a turning point for this Reddit user. He changed his drinking habits (via wdlp).

Reddit

13. Banned For Quitting

This seems pretty harsh. How does someone get banned from somewhere for quitting? Not only is that not fair, but it’s just plain cruel. It seems that the landlord had something against this person. They’re better off with the ban anyway (via redreadyredress).

Reddit

12. 21st Birthday

What a way to go – go hard or go home, right? This guy certainly went hard before the bar banned him. The bar kicked him out for shouting at a barmaid. He then snuck back in, was kicked out again, and then tried to sneak back in and ended up falling through the ceiling. At least he got away, unharmed (via SonOfARemington).

Reddit

11. Village Pub

It seems this village pub doesn’t like outsiders and had something against the company. It’s probably something they’ll never have the answer to. Since the landlord gave up the tenancy after a year, he was probably already struggling with something. Maybe it’s a good thing they never went into that pub (via newnortherner21).

Reddit

10. Mom Banned From High School?

There’s so much going on in this post. Firstly, this Reddit user’s mom was banned from their high school. Not only that, but the school banned her for barging into class and cursing and yelling at the wrong table of girls. How terrifying! Watching their mother get escorted out of class by the principal and police officer is mortifying. It’s something everyone in that high school talked about for weeks after. While it was a stressful situation back then, at least it seems like they can laugh at it now (via inmuah).

Reddit

9. Banned From Russia

We’d ban ourselves from Russia too if this happened to us. The government contacted this Reddit user with a £20k fine. Not going back to Russia is worth saving the tens of thousands of pounds (via acidus1).

Reddit

8. Working Men’s Club

This men’s club does seem pretty strict, but they also seem quite reasonable. Getting banned for making too much noise, cursing, swearing, and mocking the committee seems like a valid reason to ban someone from entering a men’s club (via LumpyCamera1826).

Reddit

7. DVD Store

Getting banned for an accident seems harsh. We’ve all tripped and knocked things over. We’re human, after all. The DVD store banned this Reddit for life because of it. It seems that Karma got this DVD store, as they ended up closing a few years later (via ambiguous_teacup).

Reddit

6. Banned But Coming Back

It looks like bans from stores are temporary. Typically, stores use them as a warning. People keep going back despite the ban and usually succeed at getting in as a result. Unfortunately for this Reddit user, the store banned them after a mental breakdown. Luckily, they’ve henceforth managed to sneak back in many times since (via maisiieeee).

Reddit

5. Toothbrush

This is a moment where we’d have to take the blame for our kid because they didn’t know any better. This kid got his payback, however. His mother got in trouble for stealing a toothbrush even though it wasn’t her fault. Consequently, she had to take the blame and was banned from the store (via stitchmidda2).

Reddit

4. Aggressive Dancing

This is one of those times where the ban actually stuck. Six years later, the club still rejects this Reddit user because of what they did. It makes sense, though, considering they tried to aggressively dance and do a cheerleader stand on their mate’s shoulders. We would’ve loved to see that (via mitcheg3k).

Reddit

3. Trying Out Bowling Bowls

It seems like common sense that you can’t try out bowling balls at a store because of the potential damage. How would that even work? It’s not a bowling alley. We’re not even surprised the store banned this Reddit user for trying out bowling balls as a result. It is a good story though (via sid32).

Reddit

2. Wet Floor

This is a hilarious way to get banned and worth the ban as a result. The creativity and wittiness of this person’s roommate are wonderful. If we saw this display next to the wet floor sign, we’d be in hysterics because it’s hilarious. It’s almost too good to get banned (via ChillInChernobyl).

Reddit

1. Snoring In Germany

Random people can ban you from a country. This Reddit user shares their experience snoring in a hostel in Germany. A random person was then banned from the country. Honestly, we wouldn’t want to sleep in the same room as that person anyway because of this, so hopefully, this Reddit user left and found accommodation elsewhere (via Kokobwarewolf).
