If you’ve watched Friends, then you’re familiar with Matthew Perry, who portrayed Chandler Bing. The show captured fans’ hearts in the ’90s and continues to do so. But a few days ago, fans around the world heard the unfortunate news that Perry passed away at his home in Los Angeles. While it’s still uncertain what the exact cause of death was, some speculate it was a heart attack. The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene only to find out Perry had already passed. When fans and other celebrities heard the devastating news, everyone expressed their sorrow and pain at losing someone so dear to them, whether they’d met him or not.
Before Perry passed away, he made a statement and expressed what he most wanted to be remembered for. He said, “The best thing about me, bar none, is if somebody comes up to me and says, ‘I can’t stop drinking. Can you help me?’ I can say yes and follow up and do it. That’s the best thing. And … I’ve said this for a long time … when I die, I don’t want Friends to be the first thing that’s mentioned. I want [helping other people kick addiction] to be the first thing that’s mentioned and I’m going to live the rest of my life proving that.” It’s safe to say that Perry successfully helped others struggling with addiction live a better, more fulfilling life. Maggie Wheeler
Throughout the series run of Friends, Chandler had one love on the show, and that was Janice. Actress Maggie Wheeler portrayed Janice, so it only makes sense she had an incredibly sad reaction to Perry’s passing. In an Instagram post, she said, “What a loss. The world will miss you…The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared.” They shared years both on the screen and off the screen and became very close because of it (via Instagram).
