13. Believing in Overnight Success
People love the idea of overnight success. It’s a nice way for people to daydream that their problems could be magically solved without a lot of hard work. However, aside from winning the lottery, there isn’t actually anything remotely close to becoming an “overnight success”. And by claiming that someone was just “lucky” in their success is actually very disrespectful and discredits their hard work.

Many people have called Harry Potter author JK Rowling an overnight success, because her first book became a bestseller. In reality, she graduated from college, struggled through an abusive marriage, poverty, and becoming a single mother. It took her six years to write the first Harry Potter book. Even then, she was rejected by multiple publishers who didn’t believe in the potential of her story. There is absolutely nothing quick or easy about her journey.
