The Oscars are the gold standard of film awards in the Western world. Just about every actor dreams of holding the golden statuette and making a long acceptance speech nobody wants to hear. However, despite this, there’s always some controversy. The Academy can also be very conservative about who they vote for to win the coveted prizes.

In short, the most deserving movies, actors, and directors don’t always get the credit they deserve. Sometimes they don’t even receive nominations. There are many notorious Oscar winners whose victories confused everybody. Meanwhile, some made sense at the time but history isn’t kind to them. Check out the worst Oscar winners now.

Tom Hanks

Hanks made history when he won back-to-back Oscars in 1994 and 1995. The first came when he played an AIDS-afflicted patient in Philadelphia. Then he played the titular lead character in Forrest Gump, a movie that many people think is problematic. Hanks won the Best Actor accolade ahead of Morgan Freeman and John Travolta.

Freeman’s performance as Red in The Shawshank Redemption was phenomenal. However, arguably the biggest miscarriage of justice was that Forrest Gump won Best Picture ahead of Pulp Fiction. Tarantino’s masterpiece remains fresh and cool today while Hanks’ movie is sentimental and bloated (via Movie Web).

Spooky season is here, so it’s time to take out those carving knives and get to work on this year’s jack o’ lanterns. That terrifying costume collecting dust in your attic will finally see the light of day. You even finally have an excuse to eat too much of that Halloween candy that’s been on store shelves since August. But the best part about the spooky season is watching the scariest horror movies that keep you up at night.

Some of the scariest scenes stick with us because they’re just creepy overall. Some are considered to be the scariest because of the gore. And others still are simply the scariest because they’re just iconic. So it’s time to turn off the lights, put on your favorite horror movie, and sit on the edge of your seat as we remember the scariest movie scenes of all time here.

The Shining: Corpse In The Bathtub

One of the scariest horror movies of all time is The Shining, where the main character Jack watches a mansion during wintertime with his family. While the entire movie is a slow burn, the woman in the bathtub is arguably the most terrifying scene of them all. In room 237, you see a scene with a beautiful naked woman bathing in a bathtub. Jack’s original look of infatuation quickly turns to one of horror and despair once he realizes it’s not a beautiful woman, but a decaying corpse. Staff member Matt Melis from Consequence said it’s the “Bathtub lady for me. No, I don’t want to rewatch it.” Very few people want to watch that bathtub scene again (via Consequence).

We can’t deny that movie fans love a good hero. But deep down inside, we also know that many movie villains are much cooler than the heroes. They get the best costumes and the best lines but something bad happens to them in the end. Some of these villains become iconic like Darth Vader and the Joker. However, you may wonder what the actors who play them actually look like in real life.

We’ve got you covered if you do. Today we’ll look at the people behind the masks and under the costumes. Wardrobe, makeup, and VFX departments deserve immense credit for the work they do in bringing these characters to life. It’s amazing to imagine that some of these beautiful people play such evil beings on-screen, so let’s get started.

Thanos

Thanos was the big bad of the Avengers movie series and one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe. It’s easy to recognize him as the gigantic purple humanoid with a penchant for finding the Infinity Stones. But this supervillain looks very different in real life as we can see below.

Josh Brolin starred as the evil villain in the Marvel films that broke box office records. It’s safe to say that Brolin is more handsome than his character. Brolin wore facial and body capture systems in his performance. Then VFX artists used CGI to create this massive monster (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Watching a good movie is one of the best ways to relax after a long day and spend time with friends and family. Sometimes, movies even make an emotional impact on us. They can make us cry, laugh, or feel afraid. Either way, there are certain movies we keep coming back to.

But there are others that we never want to see again, usually because they were offensive or just plain horrible. So we looked back at the movies that seriously offended more people than you might realize. The stars of these films might regret being in a movie that angered so many people, or maybe they don’t regret it at all. Check out these classics of controversy on the silver screen right here.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)

There were several things wrong with the 1990 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. It wasn’t just bad acting that earned the film criticism, but there were also incredibly offensive scenes. For starters, a scene towards the end of the movie portrayed male aggression and harming women. Even though it was supposed to be comedic, there’s nothing funny about the Sheriff trying to attack the female lead Maid Marian, who was saved by Robin. These aggressive, sexual references made the movie inappropriate for all ages and offended many viewers (via IMBD).
