Over the centuries, this day has become more of an excuse to get dressed up as our favorite celebrity, fictional character, or role model without being judged or ridiculed. Couple costumes on the other hand are an entirely different category of interesting, days of Bonnie and Clyde are well behind us now. From conjoined at the hip cat and dog costumes, plastic soldiers, Edward Scissorhands, and a bush, we have seen it all, and now it’s your turn. Yin And Yang

The origin of the yin and yang is obscure, but ancient Chinese philosophy has often been described as a concept of dualism. The yin and yang describe the contradicting opposite forces that may serve to complement one another. This philosophy is actively present within our worlds, everything has its counter opposite, the sun has the moon, black has white, dark has a light, and so on. Yin often symbolizes the feminine, internal energy, the negative, passive and intuitive.

Yang is depicted as masculine, external energy, dominant, active, and of a logical mind. This Chinese concept of contrary forces is believed to create balance, an interrelation of peace.

Daft Punk further experienced their first worldwide hit with “Da Funk” in 1995, integrating a number of different musical elements known as ‘acid house’. It’s great to see Beetlejuice making a comeback, the 1988 American fantasy film directed by Tim Burton, the movie follows the Maitland’s and their haunted home. After Barbara and Adam Maitland die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. Haunting the new residents trying to move in, Barbara and Adam take on different scary appearances to scare them away.

This couple couldn’t look more like Barbara and Adam, they look so good they could pass for the real deal! They even went that extra mile with the clothes and the book, we have clear winners.

The three weird sisters usually depicted as strange and mysterious witches are a famous story we’ve all heard of. Usually carrying out evil and mischief, they’re a force to be reckoned with. Hocus Pocus is a Halloween favorite, the fantasy comedy film follows three witches who are unintentionally resurrected by a teenage boy on Halloween night. The 1993 Walt Disney Pictures production, set to release a sequel in 2022, is a popular costume choice for many people every year.

Almost every costume we’ve seen so far have done a great job at depicting the fantasy characters, Winifred Sanderson being the favorite of the Sanderson’s to dress up as.

Favorite Couples Costume

Dogs are really man’s best friends and will do absolutely anything as long as there’s a treat waiting for them. Their loyalty, companionship, and friendship with their humans is extraordinary, and they are always there to look cute in any costume you put them in. This dog and his owner really took the commitment of getting dressed up to an entirely new level, and it’s probably the sweetest couple costume we’ve ever seen.

There’s no one who could have pulled off a BB-8 costume better than this guy, we’re hoping he was rewarded with some nice treats after this picture was taken.

We have all been to a birthday or had a birthday with a cake with tiny soldiers, or bought a bag of tiny soldiers to play with. The miniature figures representing soldiers from centuries ago to today are popular toys and collectibles, offering some of us some nostalgic memories. This couple definitely took the dress-up to a crazy level of commitment, but we’re all wondering whether they glued themselves to those planks or just carried them around.

Johnny Depp is known for many roles in his time, one the multi-accolade star is best known for is his role as Edward Scissorhands. A kid with scissors for hands created by an inventor, taken in by a family, where he falls in love with their daughter, long-time love interest and star in her own right, Winona Ryder. Edward repays the neighborhood for their kindness by trimming their hedges and cutting women’s hair.

This creative couple’s costume really did the characters proud, but it couldn’t have been too comfortable for the bush, so we commend the effort!

First Couples Halloween

We’ve all seen the twin sisters in blue dresses who send chills down our spines, well the Grady Twins do more than just creep us out, they make great costumes too. Stephen King’s 1980 psychological horror, The Shining, follows Jack Torrance, a writer with the ‘psychic’ abilities to see the horrific past of the Overlook hotel. The Grady Twins are two little girls who were murdered by their father while he was possessed, and haunt the Overlook Hotel.

Although the Grady Twins were twin sisters, we can’t help but admire this couple and their costume, they might even pull it off better than the original twins.

It’s So Fluffy!

For those of us who have watched Monsters, Inc, or have at least heard of the movie, the touching scene between James P. Sullivan and Boo is an unforgettable one. The 2001 animated film, circles around a group of monsters whose jobs are to scare children, until one of the monsters and the children bond and become friends. Boo, who is played by Mary Gibbs, is a curious, and fearless two-year-old toddler.

Although she has little to say, she speaks mostly gibberish and completely wins over our attention throughout the movie with a character that draws you in from start to finish.

Aladdin And A Magic Rug…

There is something about inanimate objects talking or reacting in movies that makes it all that much more magical. The Magic Carpet of Aladdin is especially magical, because not only does it fly but it has a personality, although it has no dialogue throughout the Aladdin movies. So this particular costume was very interesting to see, simply because one of the couples was stuck being the carpet, but it was definitely entertaining.

Although he didn’t really get the carpet to match the origins, we can definitely understand why considering Persian rugs are fairly expensive, so opting out of using one for a costume is fair.

Tim Burton’s 1993 The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of everyone’s favorite dark holiday films. It follows Jack Skellington, the king of the town, and Sally, who is in love with jack but struggles to show him any affection. Sally and Jack’s characters are very detailed right down to every button, expressing their strange and entangled characters in the movie. Jack with his black pin-striped suit, complete with a bow tie and black shoes, and sally stitched together, with dead leaves used as stuffing, long red hair, big bulging eyes

This couple almost look like the real deal, getting almost every single detail of the characters down to their clothing and Sally’s eyes, pretty impressive.

The musical fantasy starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka is a classic, the film earned over $4 million and received an Academy Award followed by various other accolades and notable recognition. Whether it was the big chocolate factory or the dancing and singing Oompa Loompas, there was never a dull moment. But the real story is Charlie Bucket, the poor kid who gets his big break after receiving the magical golden ticket. Along with the other kids whose stories were just as memorable.

Much like every other animated film, there is always a backstory, for Toy Story, it embodies friendship, love, and family. The film revolves around a world where toys come to life, and centers around two main characters, Woody, a pull-string cowboy doll, and Buzz Lightyear, an astronaut action figure toy. At the beginning these two characters are rivals, but evolve into friends working together to find their way back to their owner, Andy Davis, who they were separated from.

Their relationship was a rollercoaster of ups and downs until they found one common goal and became practically inseparable, a beautiful story about friendship and family.

The 2017 remake of Disney’s 1991 animated fantasy musical film explored the true meaning of sacrifice and love. It begins with a disguised enchantress who tricks a self-indulgent, selfish prince when he refuses to help her, cursing him and his entire kingdom of staff. Until one stormy night, a young woman from the village in a rage to save her fathers enters into a promise that binds her to the kingdom and the cursed.

This storyline resonates with almost everyone that watches it, but it seemed that it resonated with this particular couple in a different way, nonetheless, we are loving it.

Painter and television personality Bob Ross has gained even more recognition after his death, through his popular PBS television show The Joy of Painting 1983-94, which today is available on youtube. His unique techniques made him popular amongst many aspiring artists and continue to today. His episodes are so easy and fluid to follow, it gives the opportunity for everyone, artist or not, to take 30minutes to enjoy a therapeutic activity.

Politics And Propaganda

A picture really can say a thousand words, and this one is all politics. Most of us are familiar with the propaganda of World War II, including the famous J. Howard Miller’s “We Can Do It!” poster from 1943. It was used at the time as an inspirational message to boost female worker morale. The poster became even more popular during the 1980s, being used in many different forms including “We Can Do It!” and “Rosie the Riveter” used in feminist protests during the ’80s.

Still seen today as an empowerment towards feminism, we still see it floating around in vintage markets, with Rosie still looking stronger than ever.

The well-known Addams family dates back as far as the 1930s, during which time cartoonist Charles Addams created a fictional family of delinquents and mysteries. The Addams family originally consisted of Gomez and Morticia Addams, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, family members Uncle Fester and Grandmama, their butler Lurch, and Thing the dismembered hand that was later introduced in 1954. The Addams family were a particularly interesting family to watch because not only were they bizarre, they were seemingly indifferent about what people thought of them.

The family has had an extensive influence on American television, and inspiration for goth fashion, the iconic family is admired for their dissimilarities and we can’t get enough of them, especially the creative costumes!

The Child’s Play slasher film franchise is carried out by its protagonist, fictional character Chucky Ray, a vicious serial killer who possesses a doll and is continuously trying to transfer back into a human body. The character has become increasingly famous over the years, with a 2019 remake of the film gaining popular traction. No one wants to imagine their dolls being possessed by serial killers, but there’s definitely something about a creepy toy that gets all our attention.

The science fiction horror television series streaming on Netflix has made quite the splash since its release in 2016. Set in the 1980s started with the investigation of a missing young boy, and follows the mysteries and thrills of a group of teenage boys trying to discover the eerie occurrences happening in their town. Over the course of just a few years the show has received multiple accolades and notable recognition, which renewed it for a fourth season which will be airing in 2022.

A Very Curious George

The animated series based on the popular books by Margret and H.A. Rey, CURIOUS GEORGE follows Curious Wandi George the monkey in his journey in the city and country with his owner and best friend “The man in the Yellow Hat.” Aside from the famous monkey, the only other recurring character is “The Man in the Yellow Hat” although never mentioned by name, he takes George on his adventures and saves George when he needs it.

He is always wearing a bright yellow suit and a wide cone like yellow hat, and this yellow man costume definitely has to be one of the best we’ve seen, definitely have to admire the effort.

Forever Love

The infamous couple John Lennon and Yoko Ono were idolized or criticized for the most part of their relationship, and continue to be until this day. This Couples Costume Is Too Precious

If there was much to remember from The Lord of the Rings sequels, it was definitely Gollum, no one who’s watched the fantasy films could soon forget ‘precious’. The fictional character was first introduced in the 1937 novel The Hobbit, becoming more relevant in the sequel. Although he does send chills down our spine, he’s one of those characters we just love despite being incredibly uncomfortable watching.

Some of the creepiest scenes on Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 1988 were difficult to watch but even harder to forget. One scene, in particular, was Beetlejuice trying to marry a teenager, the entire wedding scene was very dark, considering Beetlejuice was possibly three times her age. The symbolism throughout the scene further emphasized the discomfort, when the teenager was married in red, which according to an old victorian superstition states “Married in red, you’ll wish yourself dead.”

If we thought the scene couldn’t get any creepier, when it comes to the part of the rings, Beetlejuice pulls out the ring with the finger of his ex still attached to it, chills!
